An open bite occurs when your teeth don’t overlap with each other. This may make you look like your mouth is never completely closed. An open bite can be caused by jaws that don’t grow the right way or thumb sucking. It is important to start treatment for an open bite early, because this condition can cause:
- Excessive wear of the teeth
- Gum disease, including loss of bone surrounding the tooth or teeth
- Jaw deformity
- Improper chewing patterns
- An unattractive smile
- Permanent speech problems
OPEN BITE CORRECTION
An open bite is often corrected using braces. Sometimes, oral surgery is needed.
Dr. Dworkin and staff look forward to hearing from you!
